Ever wondered why extra-large candles in high-street stores cost less than £10?
A little bit about me — I launched my own candle business, The Noor Company, in 2017. This journey made me realise the true importance of a well-made candle and the significant differences between soy and paraffin wax.
Now, don’t get me wrong—you can find candles in most high-street supermarkets for under £10. But have you ever stopped to consider what you’re actually buying? Many budget-friendly candles may seem like a great deal, but are they really? Some larger, bargain-priced candles only have fragrance infused in the top quarter, meaning the scent quickly fades as you burn them. So, are they truly worth the money?
If you’re wondering whether soy candles are a better option than paraffin wax candles then the answer is likely yes! — Especially if you care about the environment and indoor air quality. Here’s why:
• Cleaner Burn: Unlike paraffin wax, which can produce soot and leave residue on walls and furniture, soy wax burns cleanly, reducing indoor air pollution.
There are several key factors to consider if you want to get the best performance from your candle.
Did you know that trimming the wick after each burn is essential for a cleaner, more even burn? Or that your candle should be burned for a minimum of two hours during the first use to prevent tunnelling?
If a candle isn’t burned long enough initially, it forms a memory ring—a hardened wax rim that causes uneven melting. Once this happens, the candle will continue to tunnel for the rest of its lifespan, wasting wax and diminishing its burn time.
By following these simple steps above, you can ensure a longer-lasting, more efficient candle experience.
Selling The Noor Company
I began renovating my home in Norfolk in 2020, which led me to sell The Noor Company to Elizabeth Bunn. Under her leadership, the brand has reached new heights, and it’s been incredible to see its continued growth and success.
Today, we proudly stock The Noor Company candles at Norfolk Luxury Furniture and on our website. It’s an honour to work alongside such a remarkable brand, as these candles are truly special in every way—and they will always hold a special place in my heart.
My top favourite candle is Mandarin & Tonka Bean - it's also our best-selling fragrance in-store.
